Irenic

Nope, that title wasn't a typo. (Althought it does remind me of a song: "A little too irenic, and yeah, I really do think / it's like ray-ay-ain...." But I digress.) I learned a new word tonight, and since it's not every day that I get to learn a new word, I thought I'd share it. The word is "irenic," meaning "favoring, conducive to, or operating toward peace, moderation, or conciliation" (with thanks to http://www.m-w.com).

I ran across it in two of Dr. Ervin's books (which I'm reading for my Pneumatology class), so I figured if I had already seen the word two or three times in a total of about 15 pages, it was probably a "preferred" word that I needed to learn without delay.

How happy is it to know you're learning new words?!? It makes me want to go to class and see what else I might learn. I have actually learned several new things in the past couple days. First, I learned a money-saving fact pertaining to my job, which I won't bore you with, but which was very good information to have. Second, thanks to the most incredible Dr. Gray and her student intern, I learned how to create a link from a website to a specific page within a PDF document (rather than to just the first page of the unhyperlinked PDF, which was all I knew how to do prior to Friday). And now a new word!

As Dr. Gray said Friday, it's a pretty great day when you can learn something new. I love learning things!!! :)
