Or are some people just dodos? This is the question I pose this afternoon after lunching at McDonald's. McDonalds on a Saturday, I believe, brings out the best and worst in people. It's always full, there are always lots of children running around, and the staff are always busy.
Yet in the midst of what could be considered chaotic, there is an opportunity to still show manners. For instance, let us consider the case of Family A, which consisted of 3 boys and a mother. The boys waited appropriately in line, and when the mother needed to cut through the line to get over to the pop machine, she appropriately said, "Excuse me."
Not so with Family B. Family B consisted of a grandmother, a mother, and a boy. First, the grandmother pushed between Becky and this guy twice as she went back and forth to get drinks, etc. Then the boy kept jetting in and out of the line to grab fries off the tray. Finally, the mother cut behind me and literally shoved me as she was on her way to the pop machine. In no way did any of the members of Family B make any comments to the people they were irritating, nor did they have the grace to say, "Excuse me," when they ran into people.
A simple, "Excuse me." Or, "Pardon me, please." Is it really so difficult???

At least they don't accidently start calling people "m'lord" or "m'lady" in public.
But I wouldn't call that rude. If anything, it's overly polite. I mean, yes, a little weird unless you're at a Ren. Faire. But still quite gracious and endearing.
you think Mcdonalds is bad on saturday, try Walmart! A couple weeks ago a little old lady literally ran over me from behind with her cart and kept putting her (numerous) items on the scanner with mine (1 item). Needless to say, this irritated the clerk who had to keep giving them back to her so I wouldn't get charged for her things. Of course the scanner caught one of her things and the cashier had to delete it, but did that stop her? No! The lady then hands me my thing and pushes me out of the way, and continues putting her stuff on the scanner! I still hadn't paid for it yet!
Oh my gosh! That is completely insane!
I thought so. I believe you're right and no one bothers with being considerate anymore...
