Brain Research and the "Aha!" Solution

In a spurt of random blog-hopping, I ran across this article from the Association for Psychological Science on some people who studied "Aha! moments"--the times when the brain comes to a sudden place of clarity with regard to problem solving. Here's the basic premise: the minds that are prepared in a certain way prior to the emergence of a problem will come more quickly to a creative "Aha!" (or flash of insight for a solution) in the problem-solving process. In turn, minds that are more methodical in nature process the problem from a completely different part of the brain and go through the problem-solving process more slowly. This leads researchers to wonder if there is a certain "state of mind" that lends itself better to creative problem-solving and if there is a way for anyone, having attained it, to become a better problem-solver.

The article (linked above) isn't very long. Give it a read if you get a chance; I found it fascinating and would love to see your comments on it.
