It's a funny feeling: blogging in the morning. I'm more of a late-night blogger--that is, unless something of great blogging value occurs during the day. Do you ever find that your thoughts are more focused at certain points in the day than others? I'm that way at night. So it's weird, being on vacation, because morning is often the only free time I have to write.
Life is good. Tuesday night, we had some quality family time out at Oldsmobile Park, where we watched the Lansing Lugnuts lose (unfortunately) to the Western Michigan Whitecaps. I'm not a super big baseball fan, but Lugnuts games are always fun. I'm not sure if it's just that Lugnuts stadium does better stuff than others (i.e., Drillers), or if it's the fact that my parents and Mike are just highly entertaining people, but it's always a great time. Except for the woman who sat in front of us. She was clearly on a date (dressed to the nines, clinging to the guy's arm the entire time, and I don't think she cheered for anything--not even once), but she had put on perfume that was so strong that the overwhelming smell didn't dissipate until sometime in the 7th inning. It gave me a headache.
After the game, there were fireworks, and what we saw was amazing until they had to shut down the show because the wind was blowing the ashes into the street and dangerously close to nearby buildings...or something. I would have been disappointed, but we were in prime seats to catch the city of Lansing's fireworks show, so we stuck around, and that was breathtaking! And even when the show was over, all over downtown people were setting off fireworks, so it's like we got show after show as we were walking to the car, stuck in traffic, etc. If I had a list of favorite things, fireworks would be very high up on that list.
I saw my first Superman movie last night. Yes, first. Ever. I don't know how I missed the others, but I did. My conclusion: The movie was ok, but I love the idea of Superman! (I think every girl does.) I love the idea that inside of geeky (though adorable) Clark Kent is a superhero waiting to emerge. This connects to something else I've been thinking about lately, but I'll save it for another time because my morning brain is not in the reflective place necessary for me to discuss it sufficiently.
The thing I always forget about Michigan is how cool it is. (Yes, I'm blogging about the weather.) But really. It's wonderful! Yesterday I went jogging around noon, and there was a lovely breeze under a sky so blue I thought for a moment I had to be farther south. Running outdoors on a midday in July. And I barely broke a sweat.
Beautiful Michigan....

Okay, how jealous am I?
First of all, vacation . . . what a concept! I don't think I've ever taken a "real" vacation. I always used my vacation time to work at camp.
Second, BASEBALL! I can't believe you went to a baseball game! I'm so proud of you!
Seriously, the new Superman movie is the first one you've ever seen???? Do they not have movies in Michigan? I mean, I know you missed out on a lot of that kind of stuff as a kid, but Superman? How could you have missed Superman? I've had a crush on him nearly since birth! Okay, forget the new movie, you have to watch at least the first three Christopher Reeve movies! Go, get them now! Take advantage of your vacation and watch them!
And the cooler weather, don't even get me started on weather!
Anyway, I am glad you're having a good time!
Ok, just for the record, it's not as though that was my first baseball game ever. I do go occasionally. I'm just more of a basketball fan than a baseball fan.
As for Superman, I highly doubt I'll have time to watch them while I'm here, but they are on my "list" of movies I'd like to see sometime.
At least see the first two. The third one's...well...take it or leave it. I can't speak for Supe IV, because I havent seen it. Returns supposedly takes place after the second movie, as though III and IV didn't exist.
