So apparently the "powers that be" have decided that Florida will play Ohio State in the championship game, not Michigan. I have problems with this. Not that I have a problem with Florida--they've had a good run and I'm happy that they get a chance for the big game (and I honestly hope they kick Ohio State's butt!).
But I think the BCS voters are wimps. I think they're afraid that Michigan is potentially capable of beating Ohio State, and if that were to happen, it would complicate all of their already complicated poll systems.
If USC had won against UCLA, it would have been an easy call. But now.... I'm no expert. But a lot of experts seem to think that Michigan is the rightful #2 football team this year, even though they lost (by 3 points) to Ohio State a couple weeks ago.
It's not a huge deal to me. I just don't understand why the BCS guys were so afraid of a rematch.

You mean they vote on who goes to championships? That's dumb. Why don't they play a game to decide? Like in baseball.
That's the big debate right now, actually. I think the problem is that there are so many college teams that to do a fair playoff would take a long time. So at least to determine some things, the BCS system maybe helps by balancing things like toughness of schedule with actual wins/losses. But once you get your top 24 teams, let's say, I think it is only fair to let them have a playoff season kind of like what March Madness is to college basketball. But that's just me.
I agree with you about the BCS. The problem is that in football, you can only play one game a week, and in basketball, you usually play 2 or 3 games a week, so the playoffs would take forever. Also, there's bound to be debate about which teams make the top 24 (or however many). In addition, holiday bowl games are such a New Years tradition, you know people are going to yell and scream if there's only one bowl game on New Years. And you can't very well have more than one game at the end of the playoffs, because you don't know which teams are going to advance until the preceding games are played. I'm not sure what the solution is, but the BCS clearly doesn't work!
Boo Hoo. Get over it! Life's not fair. Besides, Ohio State is #1. Go BUCKEYES!
Seriously, though, it's always been a pretty biased process. Before the BCS, it was a matter of sports writers pontificating on who's the best team in the country without ANY real head-to-head contest between #1 and #2. I believe that the BCS is certainly overly constrained by statistical analysis and could use some form of human judgement to smooth its rough edges. But then we'd find fault with that judgement as well and question whether or not it was unbiased. Even now the newspapers in Michigan are crying that Florida cheated by lobbying the BCS while UM took the 'high-road' and lost the political contest. That said, "Na Na Na Na Na, Go BUCKEYES!"
WHATEVER! If you weren't my dad, you'd SO be the enemy right now! :)
You're probably right about the BCS, though. I suppose people will always find things to complain about, no matter what system is in place.
Not to add fuel to the fire (or maybe that is my intention) and to quote Dirty Harry as he finally cornered his suspect, "I know what you're thinking, 'Did he fire 5 times or 6?'. Go ahead make my day."
Anyways, Bob Murphy told me that a few years ago the BCS opponents were actually in the same conference and HAD played each other during the regular season. But we CAN'T let UM and OSU (The 'real' OSU) play again. No..., that wouldn't be right.
