If A Person Is Sitting Outside Reading, Don't...

...join her and start talking to her if you are an annoying person. That's all. Lunch, my one highlight of the day, spoiled. Rather than reading my wonderful Lilith by George MacDonald, I was forced to listen to someone whose sense of perspective is diminutive at best.

I suppose I wasn't forced. But I do hate being rude.

I totally agree. If I have a book in my hand, and I don't make eye contact with you, that means I don't want to be bothered by basically everyone (crushes, finacees, and respective close friends excluded).

Why are people so thick sometimes?

If he were a particular handsome man, I'm sure you wouldn't have minded so much. It really isn't so bad to be approached by someone.

See, but there are moments when even crushes, fiances (if applicable), and respective close friends would still be intruding. Yesterday was my second 12-hour workday this week. I was working toward a major deadline, it was really stressful, and the only time I had where I could "not work" (either day or night) was that lunch hour. All I wanted to do was read, and I had just gotten lost in the chapter when the fellow came and sat down.

If the conversation had been at all stimulating, I might have overlooked it. And it wasn't that he was hitting on me, Becky. Though with seminary students, sometimes it's hard to tell. I just felt like I was losing brain cells every minute that I sat there.

What are you doing reading a book anyways?

Thats so 1990's.

Do what I do, just get the book on cd version (or download it) and listen to it on you mp3 player.

Thats what i do sister, and people are less likely to bother you if you have earplugs in.

If that doesnt work....just make sure you carry a small rope with you in your purse...when said person comes up to talk to you when you are reading...just wait a few moments (whist looking completely unintristed)...and then tie the rope around your neck...then raise the other end of the rope up with one hand while listing your head to the side.

Then they might get it.
